About RLPA
The Rupununi Livestock Producers Association (RLPA) was established in 1978 by a group of ranchers in the Rupununi Region to help support and sustain the livestock industry. It represents ranchers, village herds and smallholders alike.
Where is the Rupununi?
The Rupununi Region also known as Region 9 - Upper-Takutu-Upper Essequibo is Guyana’s southernmost geographical region. The area is known as “the Rupununi”, because of the river that runs through the entire Region from the Deep South, connecting to the Essequibo in the north.
The RLPA's main objective is to lobby for, encourage, and promote improvements in livestock production while collaborating with relevant institutions to further members' interests. This involves promoting and coordinating the development of holistic and sustainable approaches to pasture growth and management within the landscape’s environmental limits, as well as breed improvement, enhanced animal husbandry, and marketing opportunities for local livestock producers.
The RLPA is also responsible for coordinating the selection of the Rupununi Rodeo Committee who is responsible for the planning and executing of the annual Rupununi Rodeo which takes place during the Easter weekend at the Triple "R" Rodeo ground near the town of Lethem.
Our members come from all across the Rupununi from a wide range of people from the South Central, Central, North Rupununi and Karasabai.
